Open Your Heart to Art Benefit

After a very hot NY summer, Young Variety is back in action helping us fundraise with their next benefit, right around the corner, on Oct. 12th.  The Open Your Heart to Art Benefit is very different from any of the Young Variety NY events planned before.  Of course as in the past guests are asked to come out to support Variety, enjoy beverages and the company of each other; however on Oct. 12th guests will also have the opportunity to see first hand how their contributions really affect the children Variety supports.

A gallery of photographs taken by students of the ICP program at The Point will be displayed on the walls of the venue, the Bowery Wine Company, giving guests the opportunity to admire, and if they wish, to purchase the photographs.  The Point is one of Variety's grantees with a rich history connecting the two organizations for over a decade.  Located in the Hunts Point section of the South Bronx, The Point's mission is dedicated to youth development and the economic and cultural revitalization of their community in Hunts Point.  They provide year round programming to children and adolescents that incorporates artistic and cultural education, an area that is desperately lacking in the public schools they attend.  The Point is definitely an organization to learn about, as is their community, visit their website to read more.

The awesome thing about the sale of the photographs is that 50% of the proceeds benefit The Point's programs and 50% go to the child artist.  All other proceeds from ticket sales benefit Variety's grant making initiatives.  The Bowery Wine Company has been extremely generous to offer discounted beverages and appetizers to those in attendance and Young Variety has devoted much of their time to ensure this will be an evening filled with fun as well as alot of heart!

$1 Children's Movies Every Tuesday Through August!

AMC Theaters and Variety the Children's Charity are continuing their national partnership of $1 kids movie matinee Tuesdays every Tuesday from June 15-August 10 during their AMC Summer MovieCamp.  The proceeds from the movies benefit the Variety chapter of the area and allow families to enjoy inexpensive entertainment while helping out a great cause.  Here in New York there are dozens of AMC theaters throughout the state, so make sure to check out if there is a participating location near you and go enjoy the films which include tomorrow's Monsters vs. Aliens, as well as a slew more ahead: Madagascar, Kung Fu Panda, Hotel for Dogs and more!

March 4th, 2010- The 15th Annual Radiothon!

We're having our biggest fundraiser of the year next Thursday, March 4, 2010---our annual Radiothon!  It's been months of planning with our amazing host "Cousin" Brucie, who is a New York radio mainstay for the past 40 years.  "Cousin" Brucie will be hosting the Radiothon from 8am-6pm on WOR 710AM Radio and inviting everyone in the Tri-State area to call in and donate to Variety in support of our Grantmaking and Mobility Programs.  He'll also be announcing a lot of exciting auction opportunities with incredible prizes, like the ones below!

It's an exciting month for Variety of New York, we have three campaigns going simultaneously; Gold Heart Pins, Wishing Well, and Paper Hearts, next week brings the 2nd Annual Open Your Heart Benefit and just the latest, we have partnered with jewelry designer Gara Danielle to create a Variety necklace.  It is available for purchase now in 14k gold and sterling silver.

2nd Annual Open Your Heart Benefit

Young Variety, the young professionials committee, of Variety the Children's Charity of New York is hosting their second annual Open Your Heart benefit at Marquee in the Chelsea district of Manhattan.  Last year Young Variety welcomed in a crowd of over 300 to dance the night away and enjoy an evening of celebration and fun which included music by DJ Mel and complimentary Variety cocktails. 

The 2010 benefit is something to look forward to even more.  Block off Feb 9, 2010 on your calendars from 7pm-10pm and come listen to tunes from famed DJ Jus Ske while enjoying complimentary Variety cocktails once again for the first hour.  This year complimentary hors d'ouevres will be served and the evening will also include opportunities to win amazing raffle prizes which include signed sports memerobilia as well as a silent auction.

The Young Variety committee has been working diligently for months to ensure that their guests will not only be contributing to our great charity but also having a blast doing so.  Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door, so make sure to purchase early!
